The family moved to Jacksonville in 1970 where Kathy attended Assumption Catholic School and Bishop Kenny High School.

She was a very talented artist who turned her creative skills into a hair stylist and colorist business she proudly called her own for more than 20 years. She loved bringing her creative juices to life.

It has been a while but we were good friends as well as clients. Always had fun when we went to Kathy's shop, such a funny lady. She will be missed!

I don't think I can count our memories from the last 4 decades of friendship. There are just so many of them. Kathy was my best friend since we were teenagers. She was a sister to me, my biggest confidant and advisor, and basically my other half. Kathy was smart, fun loving, hilarious, and smart. If she liked you, she would move mountains for you. And, if she didn't like you, you would probably know it! I always told her she was brutally honest... whether I wanted to hear it or not- lol. Kathy was a fiercely, loyal friend always standing up for those she loved. I always knew Kathy 'had my back' in any situation. I feel like people saw different versions of Kathy thru different aspects of her life. Some people saw her as the girl who grew up on Nicholson Avenue and went to Assumption School. She was the tomboy who played basketball and beat up boys! She was Terrie's younger sister and Mr and Mrs Shanks daughter. She loved her family so much. Some people knew her as our fun loving friend in the 1980s that went to Bishop Kenny, was called 'Shank' and would get in trouble from ' Sister Susan ' for her uniform skirt being rolled too high!
Some knew her as the friend from our twenties while becoming adults getting ready to 'take on the world'. She was the talented artist turning her creativity into a career enhancing others thru hair design. She opened her own shop and was known as a great businesswoman.
To others, Kathy was the good wife and doting mother. She was Rays wife of 16 years and Audrey's mom who adored her. She was the mother who coached sports, played tennis and was often seen climbing up into her big ole Hummer! To me, she was my best friend for 36 years. I saw her in all of these roles and more. She was my biggest confidant and supporter. She was my other half who knew me better than I know myself. She was the first person I would call to laugh, she was the first person I would call to cry. And this world will never be the same without her.

Kathy was always late, and we always laughed about it. 9:00 meant 9:30, 9:30 meant 10. But it was always fun no matter what time we got together. She was a great friend who loved her family, especially the center of her universe, her beloved Audrey. She was so proud of her and always worrying about her. She loved how close Audrey was with her Daddy and what a great relationship they had. I will miss our chats and her great perspective on life. I'll miss sharing the latest TV shows with her and her love of surprises. I am so going to miss her sending me shopping tips , fussing with my hair until it was perfect and never being able to "make a left turn".

All my love to her family, you will never be alone, she will always being near.

Kathy was one of the most fun, caring, crazy people I knew. At times irreverent, yet always loyal, loving and devoted to her family. She cut and styled both mine and my mom’s hair -when she was in town- for many years. I appreciated how tender she was with my 87 year old mother (photo included of mom). We both adored Kathy and will miss her terribly! She always made me feel beautiful. She had a natural talent, incredible gift and generous spirit. My heart goes out to Audrey. (Your mom was so full of love for you! I lost my dad when he was 49 years old. It reshapes and never leaves you.) She’s going to be one of the spiciest and most caring angels in heaven. She will never stop looking out for her family. Deepest condolences to the entire family.

I was Kathy’s client for many years and she was my Stylist, more importantly, my friend. She loved the whole process of creating with great skill and talent what I knew was the best haircut I could possibly get. She was generous and caring, a great listener too. I will miss the times where she always made me feel that I was important to her, not just as a client, but a person. She helped me with her suggestions on life, my kids, my job, etc..I’ll never forget those times, the laughs and the tears. Unforgettable. My friend Kathy, I’ll miss you!
