

Kathryn “Kitty” Moseley of Jacksonville, passed away on September 12, 2016 at the age of 107. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on January 9, 1909. She was from many generations of The Grooms Family of South Carolina. She attended Memminger Girls School and graduated from there in 1926. She married J.O. Moseley who resided in Charleston having moved from Camden, South Carolina. His career with the Atlantic Coast Line R.R. resulted in her moving to many towns in the Southeast. During these years, she was active as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and parent-teacher groups. The family was always active in the Baptist Church in their community including Southside Baptist, Hendricks Avenue Baptist and a church where she served as a charter member.
In 1943, the family moved to Jacksonville. She continued her volunteer work when a Muscular Dystrophy Chapter was created here, was active as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 181 and later Pack 6. She was in the Gloriosa Circle of the Garden Club and more recently at the age of 100 was President of her Circle. She was an Officer in the South Jacksonville Woman’s Club and was a moving spirit in their construction of a new building on Beach Blvd. She was President of the organization in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In addition, she was committed to the creation of the Baptist Hospital in the 1940s to 1950s. She was a charter member of the Baptist Auxiliary in the mid-1950s. She served as President in 1960 and worked as a volunteer in the organization for more than 25 years. She contributed thousands of hours in volunteer work at the hospital working at the Civilian Information Desk, ICU and Heart Center. In addition, she worked for numerous organizations doing other volunteer work. During all of this, she was active in parent groups at Hendricks Avenue School and Landon High School. She gave countless energies to all of these volunteer efforts. She had numerous friends here and valued each one as a very special person. She was admired and respected by her friends, loved by her family, keenly aware of the responsibility of citizenship, thankful for our country and the blessings bestowed by the Grace of God.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, her eldest son, John Olin, Jr., her sister Octavia, and her mother and stepfather. She is survived by her son, James F. Moseley (Anne) and grandson, James F. Moseley, Jr. (Heather), his children, namesake Kathryn, John Olin and Andrew; grandson, John M. Moseley (Jessica) and his daughter, Frances; grandson Charles (Linda), and grandson John Olin, III. There are countless great-grandchildren.
There will be a gathering of friends and family at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Each of these will be held at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
