

LaVerne F. Bryan, 88, passed peacefully into Heaven on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Hadlow Center/Community Hospice of NE FL, after a brief illness. She was born July 27, 1922, in Avon Park, FL, to Hugh Grady Fortner and Vernie Ellis Fortner. She was a long-time resident of Jacksonville and resided at Taylor Manor on Chester Ave.
LaVerne was a member of San Jose Church of Christ, where she taught a Ladies’ Bible Class for many years and served as an elder’s wife. LaVerne was a beautiful lady, inside and out, and was known for her unique fashion style. She was a loving and generous wife, mother and Nana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 68 years, Victor Bryan, and her daughter, Marguerite Alred.
LaVerne is survived by her brother, Kenneth Fortner, and one son, Gerry Bryan (wife, Kay); Four grandchildren: Heather Alton (husband, Ron); Alisa Bishop (husband, Gary); David Bryan (wife Stacy) and Michael Bryan (wife Michelle); Six great-grandchildren: Derek, Jarod and Trevor Alton; Dane Bishop; and Miles and Mason Bryan.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL, 32207. 904-346-3808. Burial will be in Winter Haven, FL.
