

Lawrence Alan Blood, Jr., known to friends and family as Alan or Al, passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness on February 7, 2026. Born in San Angelo, Texas, to Lawrence Alan Blood, Sr. and Priscilla Backus Blood, Alan moved to Jacksonville in 1980, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Alan attended Nease High School in St. Johns County. Later, he became a resident of Duval County, where he worked as a chef at two seafood restaurants and a private contractor in the construction industry. Later, he was employed with Impact Enclosures, specializing in building screen rooms, pool cages, pergolas, and outdoor kitchens. Alan was renowned for his dedication to quality and his commitment to ensuring customer satisfaction. He often shared photos of his completed projects with his family, reflecting his pride in his work.
Alan was a devoted father to his two children, Hailey Blood-Contos and Reed Blood. His granddaughter Jesse was a source of immense joy in his life. Alan cherished his family and treasured the time they spent together.
Alan had a wide range of interests and hobbies, including cultivating Japanese maple trees and bonsai, racing radio-controlled cars, collecting marbles, caring for reptiles, raising quail, and keeping tropical fish. He enjoyed sharing these passions with others, especially with his granddaughter Jesse. Alan loved teaching Jesse about nature, including how to catch lizards, salamanders, snakes, and other critters, creating cherished memories that deepened their bond.
Alan is survived by his parents Larry and Pris Blood, his son Reed Blood, his daughter Hailey Blood-Contos and son-in-law Tyler Contos, his granddaughter Jesse; his brother Bryan Blood; his aunt and uncle Hope and Austin Blood of Boulder, CO; his uncle Gannett Backus of Roswell, GA, and cousins Laurie Fairchild, Mark Backus and his wife Carla Backus, all of Roswell, GA; and cousin G. Austin Blood, III of California.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hardage Giddens, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223, on February 22 at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wildlife Rescue Coalition of Northeast Florida, 5250 Porter Road Ext., St. Augustine, FL. 32095
Following the memorial service, a gathering of friends will take place at the same location from 2 pm to 3 pm.
