On the 5th day of September, in the year of 1927, LC was born to LC Cole Sr. and Mary LeaVell Cole. His brother Johnnie H. Cole, sisters, Willa M. Cole and Masella Cole welcomed their baby brother, LC Cole, Jr., into the family and to the world. The parents moved to Cairo from Mounds Illinois where LC began his Public School Education at Garrison Elementary, Washington Junior High and Sumner High School and graduating in 1946. After high school, LC enlisted in the military service in the United States Army.
After his tour of duty in the military, he settled in South Bend, IN with his wife Arvlee and children, daughter Phyllis and sons Larry and Ronald. Upon the passing of his wife, and later he married Roselyn Green of Indianapolis. To this union one son, Brett Cole. He attended South Bend College of Commerce and Indiana University. LC worked in sales for Wayne and Tetra Pharmaceutical companies, Commonwealth Insurance, Prudential Insurance and Primerica Financial Services as a financial advisor. He served on the Upward Bound Advisor Board at the University of Notre Dame.
LC passed away peacefully on February 24, 2022, at home surrounded by endless love from his family and friends. All who knew LC were impacted by his quick wit, his kindness and love, and his humor and inspiration. Even though he is gone, he leaves behind footprints, trails that light our hearts with indelible memories that shine upon our days. LC married Theresa Wilson McCray in 1995. Each brings four children to their union. Theresa three girls and one boy and LC three boys and one girl. In 1998 LC and Theresa moved to St Augustine FL. where he bragged about the good weather to his friends up North and met new friends. LC and Theresa became members of Grace United Methodist Church, there he served as a member of the Trustee Board, an Usher and Greeter.
When you encountered him, LC was always welcoming you into his life. There was always an invitation to visit his home where he and wife Theresa hosted wonderful parties, serving delicious meals (eating was his favorite past time), enjoying his vast collection and passions of listening to jazz , traveling, reading and engaging people in great conversations. LC never met a stranger. He made and cherished friends all over the country and he thoroughly enjoyed more adventures than most can ever imagine. One of his most memorable experiences was driving around the United States in four months. As he continued his travels to see the world, each experience validated his belief that the world is made smaller by the good people you encounter along the way. I would be remiss if I left out sports. This is where he connected with so many young people and friends and engage in the art of sports. LC was an outstanding athlete in high school, participating in track, basketball and football. He and his good friends travelled around the country and out of the United States to enjoy the game of basketball.
LC is survived by his wife Theresa Cole, daughter Phyllis Cole of Lithonia, GA; three sons, Larry Cole (Candace Mitchell) of Indianapolis, IN, Brett Cole (Shani) of Indianapolis, IN , and Ronald Cole (who preceded him in death). Stepchildren; Helman Wilson, Jr., (Peggy) of Jacksonville, FL; Zandra Jackson of Jacksonville, FL; LaDawne Jenkins (Dr. Darryl Jenkins) of Aurora, IL and Shawn Wilson of Chicago, IL; eight Grandchildren Darryl West, Evan Cole, Shalon Cole, Fern Cole, LaTisha Cole, Roderick Cole, Renaul Cole and Randolph Cole; two step Grandchildren, Wesley Jackson (Shawna) and Kara Jackson; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to all of you who enriched his life with such quality experiences; it did not go unrecognized. A good Life Well Lived, as he would say “ Peaceful”.
