

Lena Gabbamonte passed away in her sleep February 14, 2018 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 98 years old. She was born in the province of Orta di Atella near Naples, Italy on January 4th 1920 to John and Josephine Sangiuolo . Her older sister, Mary Bottino and younger brother, Anthony Sanguiolo preceded her in death. Lena emigrated to America when she was six years old and resided with her family in Manhattan, New York.
She married Salvatore Gabbamonte on December 17, 1944 and they had one son,
Salvatore Gabbamonte Jr. Lena enjoyed playing her favorite games of Bingo and Pokeno. She spent her
afternoons watching daytime soap operas and visiting with her friends at the senior citizens center. She’ll be remembered for her year round pizzelle cookies, Easter sweet bread, Pizza Rustica, and her various Christmas cookies and struffoli, which her family have replicated but never duplicated.
Lena is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marie who loved and cared for her in her final years. Her grandchildren, Christopher (Kim) Gabbamonte and Amanda (William) Mitchell, and six great-grandchildren, Marissa, Macy, Robert, Cooper, Michael and Riley. She will be laid to rest with her husband at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York at a later date.
