Leonard Leroy “Roy” Carr, 71, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born December 13, 1950 in Ocala, Florida, he attended Ocala High School and then attained a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Georgia Southern University. While working for the State of Florida as a juvenile probation officer, he took night classes and completed his master’s degree in counseling. After working as a marital and family therapist for several years, he joined the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in August 1988. He spent his entire 25-year career in the patrol division, retiring in September 2013, and then worked as a court bailiff until his death. He always denied that he continued working after retirement to avoid the honey-do list at home, but no one can really be sure.
Roy is survived by Laura, his wife of 12 years; his son, David (Jennifer); two daughters, Victoria and Allison; two stepsons, Carl (Megan) and Jeremy, as well as four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Sr. and Evelyn Carr, his brother, Robby, and a son, Brandon.
Roy loved fishing with his brother, visiting the Gatlinburg area and the Smoky Mountains each year, and driving his 1967 Triumph GT6. All of these were a distant second to an opportunity to spend time with a grandchild. He very much enjoyed sabbath-day lunches with his group of friends, collectively known as the Lunch Bunch, each week after church.
In celebration of Roy’s life, the family will have a visitation at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 17 at LifePoint Christian Fellowship, located at 4298 Livingston Road in Jacksonville, Florida. A service will follow at 2:30 with refreshments afterward.
