Leroy Sewell Stevens, age 86, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018, surrounded by his family. Leroy was born in Americus, Georgia. He graduated from Americus High School and received a diploma from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated from the University of Georgia in Marketing. Leroy lived a full life as an entrepreneur, world traveler, avid reader and collector of Bibles, and gardener. He was a member of the Orchid Society and the Camellia Society. He was a Deacon at Riverside Baptist Church. He loved his family, his church, his heritage and his flowers. Leroy served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
A loving and devoted husband, father and Christian, he was preceded in death by his wife Frankie. He leaves behind his daughters Katherine Isaacs (John), Carol Healey (Steve), Susan Powell, and Alison Lassiter; grandchildren William Arnold (Melody), Ashley Freeman (Christopher), Jennifer Arnold, Morgan Healey, Miranda Powell, Christy Halladay (Charles), Lisa Isaacs and; great -grandchildren Amelia, Hunter, and John Halladay.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Ave. Jacksonville, Florida 32205. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 2:00pm at Riverside Memorial Park ,7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32205. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be designated to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road Jacksonville, Florida 32257 or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
