Leslie Garfield Knorr, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, on December 7, 1931, Les was the son of the late Henry and Margaret Knorr.
He graduated from Hawley High School in 1949, where he was known for his talents as a gymnast and soccer player. Upon turning 18, Les proudly joined the Merchant Marines, embarking on a journey that would lay the foundation for his adventurous spirit and love for travel.
Les met the love of his life, Jean Ann Hughey, and they were married on June 17, 1958. Together, they lived in upstate New York before relocating to central Florida in 1970. It was there that they made their home for many years, until Jean’s passing. In 2020, Les moved to Jacksonville to live with his daughter and son-in-law.
In recent years, Les enjoyed attending The Pace Place, a senior day center, where he formed new friendships and cherished the activities that kept him engaged and active.
A passionate aviator, Les held a private pilot’s license for both single-engine and instrument flying. His love for flying was only matched by his enthusiasm for chess, and he was an avid player. Les also found joy in growing orchids and, at one point, enjoyed the hobby of beekeeping. A self-employed business owner, he was dedicated and hardworking throughout his life.
Les is survived by his son, Lance Knorr; his daughter, Tracy (Michael) Huckaba; his granddaughter, Kerensa Knorr; and many dear friends and family members. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Les was a kind and charismatic individual who touched the lives of everyone he met. His love for his family and his sense of humor were unmatched, always ready with a great story or a funny joke. He often said, "Absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," and it is with this comforting thought that we bid him farewell.
Rest in peace, Les. You will be missed, but your legacy of love and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
