Leslie is survived by her husband Neil Simpson, son Geoffrey Simpson, grandson Michael Simpson, sisters Pam (James) Picray and Jackie (Brad) Hochstadt, niece Meredith (Aaron) Jespersen and nephew Josh Ward. She is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Doris Hochstadt and siblings Shane Hochstadt and Greg Hochstadt.
Leslie was born in New York City to parents Herbert and Doris Hochstadt. She graduated from West Islip High School, where she was involved in many activities including cheerleading, class council, service corps, tennis, volleyball and basketball. Following her time at Yankton College in South Dakota, she moved to Jacksonville, Fla. with her parents and siblings where she began a long career at American National Bank.
She married Neil in 1976 and the couple had one son, Geoffrey. Leslie was very proud of Geoffrey, especially when he started his own non-profit food truck. She was a loving grandmother to Michael, who she enjoyed taking to the pumpkin patch every year before Halloween.
Leslie was on a bowling league for many years along with her mother, Doris. She enjoyed watching football, especially the Florida State Seminoles and Miami Dolphins. Leslie particularly enjoyed watching the Dolphins when Dan Marino was leading the team. She was well known for her cooking and baking around the holidays, especially her famous sour cream pound cake. Her family called her the Martha Stewart of the family for the way she would decorate the table for holidays, including making her own flower arrangements.
The family is sitting shiva with a private virtual ceremony.
In Leslie’s memory, and in honor of her love of Starbucks, please consider purchasing a cup of coffee for a stranger and encouraging others to pay it forward.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please consider a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to Hippie-Que a Non Profit Food Truck.
