Linda Louise Shirley was born in Demopolis, AL, on April 21, 1941. She passed away on November 4, 2024, following a years-long battle with Parkinson’s disease. While spending her early years in Memphis, Linda became a lifelong Elvis Presley fan. Linda and her dear friend, Dottie Fitzgerald, traveled to Memphis a number of times to commemorate Elvis’ passing.
Linda and her family moved to Jacksonville in 1956, where she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1959. For most of her career Linda worked as a legal secretary and paralegal for a number of Jacksonville law firms, retiring from Winn Dixie corporate office in 2017.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Charles G. Shirley and Birdie Nance Shirley and by her brother, Roy C. (Butch) Shirley, who passed away in 2021. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Shirley Graeter and Nancy’s husband Robert, by her son Michael Goldfarb and his wife Jeanine, and by cousins Bobby Avery and Sheryl Glass Vice.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to dear friends Ed and Doris Williams for the care and support they provided throughout this past three years. Their Christian kindness will not be forgotten. We would be remiss if we did not mention the loving support offered by Linda’s friend since high school, Mae Cates Poston. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to the exceptional care team at Vitas Hospice, whose care and guidance were indispensable throughout this trying time.
A visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn from 11am-12pm on Saturday November 16, 2024.
Interment will follow a simple graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery at 2pm.
