Linda Gayle (Taylor) Zimmerman, 74, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. Linda was born December 19, 1948 in Leesville, Louisiana. She is survived by her only child, Brent (Nancy), her only grandchild, Maya, and countless friends. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, her parents, Elmer and Media, her brother, Gerald, and her sister, Gloria.
Linda was raised in Louisiana and Arkansas and attended many schools, following the construction of highways, as her father was employed in road construction as a drag crane operator. She went on to graduate from Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas) where she majored in Mathematics. After college, she entered a training program with AT&T in Kansas City where she became a computer programmer, primarily programming for mainframe computers in COBOL. Linda met her husband, Roger, an IBMer, while in this training program in Kansas City. After getting married in 1973, she worked a long and successful career in programming following her husband’s career in sales for IBM from Columbia, Missouri to San Jose, California, Decatur, Illinois, Atlanta, Georgia, Leawood, Kansas, and finally Jacksonville, Florida in 1989. She enjoyed traveling around the world and domestically, spending quality time with family and friends, and especially spending time with her granddaughter, Maya, whom she adored as “Grammy.” She was also very proud of her son, Brent, who became a successful attorney after she spent countless nights during his schooling years helping him solve calculus equations well into the morning hours until he had the confidence to excel on exams.
Our family is grateful to know that Linda is at peace after battling multiple ailments and was able to join her husband, Roger, of 49 years in Heaven on Valentine’s Day, just under seven months after his passing.
Visitation, a memorial service, and a reception will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel Legacy Lodge followed by burial at Oaklawn Cemetery on Saturday, February 25th. Visitation begins at 10:00 am, the memorial service led by Pastor Britt Gilmore, Senior Pastor of Mandarin United Methodist Church, begins at 11:00 am, and all are welcome.
