SMITH, Lola J. Smith,85,of Jacksonville passed away August. 22, 2007, at her residence, following a short illness. Lola was born Lola Janette Johnson, in Ashville, NC on December 7, 1921. Her husband of 58 years, Jack R. Smith had passed away recently on April 16, 2007. He was born in New Hampton, MO on October. 21, 1918, the son of Russell E. Smith and Grace M. Smith of Jacksonville, NC. Lola, who used her middle name of Jan all her life, was the daughter of William C. Johnson, a native of Waynesville, NC and Rosa Mae Johnson of Saluda, NC. She lived in Ashville and worked for Southern Bell after graduating from High School, until her marriage to Jack on October 17, 1948. They settled here in Jacksonville in late 1962, and were members of Christ the King Catholic Church. Jan went back to work with AT&T in 1969. After her sons, Michael & Patrick, grew up she retired in April of 1986. She is survived by her two sons; 1 granddaughter and three great grandchildren. They were the greatest!
