Born on July 23, 1938, in New Orleans, he is survived by his two children (Caroline Helen and Loys IV); his sister (Jan Charbonnet Crocker); his nieces (Slee Arnold, Cathy Burgess, Kim Crocker and Allison Portnoy); and his former wife (Caroline Hewes Charbonnet).
Loys was preceded in death by his parents (Loys and Helen Charbonnet) as well as his wife (Toni Tomasello Charbonnet).
He was graced with high energy, and his joie de vivre began in The Big Easy. His love for New Orleans culture, cuisine, fantastic wine, and the finer things in life never faded. In grade school, his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he would graduate from Bishop Kenny High School. He made lifelong friends at Kenny and loved playing football there. Loys attended Tulane University and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
He began his career in real estate development in Cocoa Beach and returned to Jacksonville to work in the growing office center industry. After starting his own real estate development company, he moved to Miami where he thrived with the hustle and bustle of the city, growth, and culture.
Loys met his wife (Toni Tomasello) in Miami. They filled their lives with great friends, adventures and travel. Ultimately, they bought a home in Italy, where they spent time with their Italian friends while on vacation and even lived there for a bit. When they returned to the US, they made their home in Sarasota.
He took drive to the next level by racing enduro dirt bikes in young adulthood and racing sailboats all over the world. He was a long-time member of the Coral Reef Yacht Club in Miami; he ran marathons; and he even swam with the sharks. Loys loved fine wine and being a member of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin was one of his greatest joys. There was never a dream too big or a detail that was too small. In summation, Loys’s love of life truly epitomized laissez les bons temps rouler. He will be greatly missed.
