Sug was born in Connecticut on May 18, 1921 and as a child moved to Miami where she graduated Miami High School and then moved to New Jersey in her 20’s. She spent most of her working years as a reader for Burrell’s Press Clipping Service, Livingston, N.J., where she was the head reader. She was well respected by the Service’s clients for her speed and accuracy. After her retirement Sug moved to Florida to be close to her sister Gloria.
Although she was known as a reserved Irish woman, she loved being adventurous. As a young child she took a small row boat out into Biscayne Bay by herself. She loved swimming in the ocean at the Jersey shore, no matter how hard the waves were crashing or how cold the water was. Her most daring adventure was soaring over the mountains of northern New Jersey in a glider plane.
Sug was predeceased by her son Roger, Specialist Fourth Class, her sister Gladys and brother Joseph. She is survived by her son Thomas and his wife Barbara-Ann, granddaughter Jennifer Rohrbach, husband Stephen, grandson Thomas Jr., great grandson Wiley, sisters Gloria and Lillian and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is remembered by many as always gentle and friendly with a smile for everyone.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the nurses and staff at Brooks Bartram Long Term Care unit for their incredible loving care of Sug (Lucille).
Visitation will be Monday September 23, 2019 from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32223.
