

Madeline West, 87, of Jacksonville, passed away on April 16, 2011. Madeline was born on January 25, 1924 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Adolphus Neal Smith and Hettie (Canady) Smith. She was a member of the Mandarin Baptist Church, and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Madeline, who enjoyed traveling, retired from the United States Postal Service, where she was a Rural Route Carrier and a Clerk. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Dottie Hancock (Berle) of Blackshear, GA and Judy Weeks (Fred) of Jacksonville; her 5 grandchildren, Gary Hancock (Whitney), Julie Costolo (Vernon), John Hancock (Tara), Travis Weeks (Margaret), and Chad Weeks (Krissy); and her 9 great-grandchildren. Madeline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Lee West, her brother, Thomas Kimzie Smith, and her sister, Helen Mae Adams. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20th in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20th, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Madeline to the Hospice.
