Marguerite "Peggy" Lombardo

Marguerite "Peggy" Lombardo, 100, passed away peacefully on 8/23/2014 at St. Catherine Laboure Manor. Peggy was born on 2/26/1914 in Carbondale, PA, to Josephine and Dr. Matthew Britz. She lived in Jacksonville for 74 years and was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 39 years, Dr. Samuel Lombardo.

Peggy was a nurse in labor and delivery for many years and later worked alongside her husband in his practice. She worked tirelessly in numerous volunteer organizations serving at local and state levels as president of the Duval County Medical Society Auxiliary and also as chaplain for their board of directors. She served in many capacities for the American Cancer Society on both local and national levels, including developing a very successful nursing program.

Peggy was the consummate encourager, she was gracious, loving, kind, generous and an inspiration to all who knew her. Peggy loved life and was sustained by her deep and abiding faith, living it out every day, letting everyone know "God has been so good to me."

Peggy will be greatly missed by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of loving and devoted friends.

A very special thank you is extended to the staff at St. Catherine Laboure Manor for the genuine love, care and concern that was given Peggy while she was a resident there.

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, at The Oaklawn Chapel with Father Frederick R. Parke officiating. Interment will following in Oaklawn Cemetery.There will be a memorial mass at Assumption Catholic Church on October 4th at eight o’clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or St. Catherine Laboure Manor.
