Marilyn Haddock 88, a longtime resident of Jacksonville Florida passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville in December 25, 2023. Her longtime friend, companion and caregiver – Marjorie Ann Griffin Lamb was with her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Clyde Haddock who died on November 12, 1992; her son David Alan Haddock who died on June 5, 2017; her mother Marjorie Young Howland who died on December 21, 1964; and her father Charles Robert Bowlby who died on June 24, 1991.
She is survived by her grandson Travis L. Haddock and great-grandson Jesse Haddock. Marilyn is also survived by 2 brothers, Edmund C. Howland of Keystone Heights, Florida and Daniel Y. Howland of Brooksville, Florida. She also leaves behind 3 nephews Paul Howland, Jason Howland and Joshua Howland who spent much of their formative years neighboring Marilyn and her family in Clay Hill Florida.
Marilyn was born in The House of Mercy (now Pittsfield Regional Hospital) in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on August 21, 1935. Marilyn spent her formative years under the care of her grandparents Mildred Phelps Young and E. Bliss Young who resided both in Williamstown, Massachusetts and Jacksonville Florida. Upon the death of her grandmother she lived with her Aunt Harriet (Young) Davis and her Uncle Alan Davis of Jacksonville.
After graduating from Landon High School in 1952 she was hired by Prudential Insurance Company of America as one of their first group of hires for their new office in Jacksonville. It seems kind of ironic that her old office building was in view from the hospital room at the end of her life, the place where her lifetime career began. That career began with training in Newark New Jersey as a 17 year old and led to a managerial position in the Small Group Administration West Division. Her career ended with retirement in 1991. She and Ann both had long membership and associations both at Prudential and with the Jacksonville Professional Women's Association and with The Pilot Club of the Port of Jacksonville. Holding “Tales of Our City” an annual Cemetery Tour for various charities here in Jacksonville at The Evergreen Cemetery on Main Street.
The graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 @ 11:00 a.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery. 4300 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207.
