

Marilyn Mason Kerr passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016. Born May 1, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts; she grew up in Clearwater, Florida, graduated from FSU, and later earned her Masters Degree at the University of North Florida in Supervision and Administration. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, James Knox Kerr, Jr. and her parents, Margaret Roach Mason and William Gray Mason, Sr., M.D. of Tampa, Florida. Marilyn taught sixth grade for 36 years in the Duval County Public School System at West Riverside Elementary, San Jose Elementary, Pine Forest Sixth Grade Center, and DuPont Middle School before retiring in 1995. She served as Scholarship Chairman for the Duval County Retired Educators Association from 1995-2015 and as Chairman of Trustees of the Florida Retired Educators Association for 11 years. Marilyn was past President of Jacksonville Alumnae PanHellenic Association, Kappa Delta Alumnae Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Society. She was active in the American Red Cross, Dreams Come True, the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Seniors on a Mission, and Friends of the Library at Jacksonville University. A member of Riverside Presbyterian Church, Marilyn served as a Deacon, received the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership, and was past President of the Herb Underwood Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Kerr is survived by her sons, James Knox Kerr, III, M.D. (Madeline), and Scott Mason Kerr (Erin); two grandsons, James Knox Kerr, IV and Cullen Lewis Kerr, of Jacksonville; and her brother, William Gray Mason, M.D. of St. Augustine.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm Wednesday, February 10 and from 11:00am -2:00pm Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32207. Graveside service will be held at the Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard at 9:00 am Friday, February 12th with an 11:00 am Memorial Service and reception at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 849 Park St, Jacksonville, Florida 32204.
