

Mario Phil Gottuso, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 27th 2018 as he entered the gates of Heaven. Mario will always be remembered for his lovable nature and quick wittiness, also his great love of his wife and family. Mario was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Mario was born on July 4th 1933 in New York, New York to Nick and Clara Gottuso. He was the oldest of 5 boys. He and his family found their way to Jacksonville when Mario was a young man. He soon enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his country proudly for 4 years followed by a 2 year service in the United States Air Force Reserves. He was discharged with honors and went on to work for General Motors Electro- Motive Division, where he quickly moved into a Supervisory role for the Jacksonville Plant. Mario married the love of his life, Barbara Louise Schiveree, in 1958. They were blessed to be able to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on January 25, 2018. After retiring from GM-EMD, Mario went on to become ordained into the ministry and served as President of Agape Christian Bookstores. After many years on the board of Agape Christian Bookstores, he volunteered to serve as President of The Jacksonville Maritime Museum for a few terms, where he enjoyed his past time of building model ship replicas. Many of his ships were on display at the museum for years and admired by many.
Mario was most of all a family man. He was a loving son and brother, a wonderful husband, devoted father and proud grandfather. He loved his family deeply and made all of his children and grandchildren feel special. His legacy of love and reverence for his Heavenly Father, his infectious joy and ability to find humor in life will always be remembered. Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Clara Gottuso and his son Anthony Gottuso. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 60 years Barbara Gottuso, his 5 children, Mario Gottuso Jr. of Atlanta, GA.,;Lindy Gottuso of Jacksonville, FL.; Albert Gottuso of Tampa, FL.; Teresa Hinn of Frisco, TX. and Yola Hayes of Jacksonville, FL. ; 14 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Frank Gottuso of Jacksonville,FL.and Joseph Gottuso of Lake City, FL.
There is going to be a Committal Service officiated by his son-in-law, Pastor William Hinn, at Jacksonville National Cemetery – 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218 on June 12th at 11 am with Military Honors.
