Raised in Jacksonville by her parents, Charles and Alleyne (Scheitlin) Burck, she grew up on the Trout River with her siblings, Nancy, Charlie, Jo, E. Lee, and Harman; her early years forged her strong character and she never forgot where she came from. On February 28, 1946, at the George Washington Hotel in downtown Jacksonville, she was married to Robert Lee Shafer from Ohio, stationed in Jacksonville with the United States Navy.
After college, Marion had a lengthy career in finance with several of Jacksonville’s premier automobile dealerships starting with Lynch-Davidson Motors.
Marion is survived by her sons Robert (Karen) Shafer, Gregory (Heather Werb) Shafer, five grandchildren, siblings Jo Blaisdell, Dolly Burck, and Harmon Burck.
Private services have been held by the family.
Marion had a kind, generous, uplifting spirit and devoted her life to her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family especially thanks River Garden Geriatric Center for years of care and support. Donations to River Garden in honor of Marion will be appreciated.
