

Marjorie Ann Collins passed away peacefully July 14, 2021 at age 97 after a long illness. Marjorie was born in Thomaston, Georgia on October 9, 1923. She attended R.E. Lee High School and Martha Berry College in Rome, Georgia. After World War II, she moved to her husband's home state of Washington where they owned and operated a home natural gas company. She enjoyed an active life outdoors in the Pacific Northwest including hiking and skiing. She later returned to Atlanta where she worked for Thomas Publishing Co. In 1957 she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she worked for Independent Life, 2 years in the purchasing department and 13 as Executive Secretary for Chairman of the Board, Jacob Bryant III. Marjorie enjoyed playing golf and bridge at the Toastmaster’s Club. Marjorie will be remembered for a will and determination that saw her through being a single working mother in the 1950’s and surviving more than one critical health emergency while hospitalized. Marjorie is survived by one son, Chris Maden (Kim), two grandchildren, Eric and Sean Maden, and two brothers, Don and Aubrey McEachern. Marjorie was predeceased in 2017 by her husband Joseph J. Collins, by her father Aubrey B. McEachern, and by her mother Gladys McEachern, two sisters, Ida Virginia White and Louise Gaddy. An outdoor memorial will be held 1:30pm Tuesday, July 20 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie’s honor can be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 4000 Spring Park Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
