Marvin Vance Collie, 87, longtime resident of Jacksonville, passed away January 24, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in North Carolina, son of the late William C. and Estelle (Grimmer) Collie.
A veteran, Marvin served in the US Army during WWII.
Marvin worked for Atlantic Coastline Railroad which later became CSX. He retired after 40 plus years of service. A true “Jack of all trades,” he could fix anything. He was a devoted Christian and spent many hours visiting and praying with the sick and elderly.
Marvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl and a son, Vance Jr.
Surviving are his loving wife, Angela, a daughter Connie Collie, step-children, Allison (Dan) Nichols and Michael (Karen) Mims, grandchildren, Brian and Alicia, great grandchildren, Christian and Vance Jr. and numerous step-grandchildren and many dear friends.
The family will greet friends on Monday evening, January 27 from 6 – 8 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday beginning at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
