Mary Grooms “Betty” “Nanny” , born September, 21, 1912 in Ft. White, Florida and died on February 19, 2016 in Jacksonville, Florida. How can you say everything you want to say about a woman who lived 103 years? She was first and foremost a Christ follower, who loved God, accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in the Ichetucknee River as a young girl. She was a dedicated wife of 40 years, who loved and respected her husband. She deeply loved and cared for her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild, and we never doubted her love. She taught us to fear God, respect authority, and that it’s important to do all things with love. She had a servant’s heart and set a right and good example for us to follow. We, in turn, have tried to pass down to our children this same example so they will continue to preserve and proclaim what is true, decent and good. Her testimony of Christ’s love was expressed in her words and deeds and during the last month of her life. She had a glimpse of the joy she was about to experience and sang church hymns that were encouraging and uplifting to all. Her presence will be greatly missed, but we know she is in the presence of her Savior, her mom, her dad, and all those who have gone before her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur E. Grooms, Sr.; daughter, Catherine Grooms Edwards; son-in-law, David Eppling; grandson, Stephen Dandridge. She is survived by her children, Elaine Eppling, Wilbur Grooms, Jr. (Trish), and Martha Dandridge (Bernie). Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel with committal services in Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Cemetery.
