Mary Mays Ganzel, 70, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on February 4th, 2013 as a result of complications stemming from ALS. Mom was born in Jacksonville on January 28th, 1943. She graduated from Bartram School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Jacksonville University. Mom worked as a supervisor for the Department of Children and Families for more than 3 decades. She enjoyed the beach, horses and University of Florida athletics. Mary is survived by her children, Mildred Ganzel and John Ganzel and other close personal friends. Her visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, February 8th at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207. Monsignor Danaher will be conducting the Funeral Service at 1 pm on February 9th at San Jose Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be directed to No More Homeless Pets. The family of Mary Mays Ganzel wants to thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to pray for us. Hello Millie and John. My name is Rosalyn. I was a CPI in your mom unit. I as other loved your mom. Mary was not only a great supervisor. She was a counselor, advisor,friend,great mentor, a mom.she was that person to me that if I was dog tired..and your mom asked for something..I would find the strength to do it.. She was that special...I just want to say (always remember the LOVE) she has for both of You and You Both will be ok..Rosalyn Knight Frick...

Millie and John. I've just gotten your message about your Mom. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. I'm sure you know I just thought the World of Mary. She was such a strong, wonderful woman. Through the years of working with her she taught me so much. She cared so deeply for people. I will miss her very much. Mrs. Ganzel was the sweetest Mom I meet in my years at SJEDS, every time she would bring John to school or pick him up she always had a smile for him and for us. She will be missed.
