Biography

It is with great sadness that the Family of Mary Vernice McPherson announces her passing on September 12, 2018, at the age of 78 years. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Connie McCluskey and Rosemary Darlington, brother Steven Wilson, step-children Jill McPherson and Basil McPherson, grandchildren Tiffanie Pindell, Melanie Rodriguez, Ashley Darlington and Steven Darlington, great-grandchildren Gabriel Rodriguez and Isabela Rodriguez.

Mary was born to Guy and Vernice Wilson of Sikeston Missouri. She used to tell us (Connie and myself) how they would walk to town once a week, usually on Saturday, and how she looked forward to getting a peppermint stick or an ice cream. She also said she always looked forward to receiving her one present at Christmas time, usually a baby doll.

She married a military man after high school and had two daughters, Connie, who was born in Sinton, Texas, and Rae Vernice, who was born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. She lived in Leonardtown, Maryland for a while, and then settled in Orange Park, Florida in 1970.

Mary had a long career working for Underwood Jewelers and then for Independent Life and Fire Insurance Company in the Home Service Underwriting Department as an Underwriter. When Independent Fire was bought out, she then retired.

Mary developed many passions in life.
She danced and sang in the Orange Park Community Theater musical “All The Girls Came Out to Play”.
She enjoyed walking the bridges in downtown Jacksonville, walking on the beach,or walking in her neighborhood.
She enjoyed gardening, keeping her house spic and span, baking bread, baking apple pies, and making spaghetti.
She enjoyed Andre Bocilli, cappochinos, and a glass of wine at night.
She enjoyed her pets: her dogs, guinea pigs, and her cats.
She wasn't a big sports fan, so on Sunday afternoons, she enjoyed going to the movies.
She enjoyed boating, and traveling, and lived abroad in Sicily, Italy, for several years. She can be seen in photos from Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Morocco. Personal favorite is her story of the camel ride in Morocco.
She enjoyed dancing and could be found doing just that every Friday night at a local club, 57 Heaven.

Most of all, she enjoyed, loved, and was devoted to her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.

Mary always had a kind word for everyone she met and was loved no matter where she went. And anytime she saw children, she would light up.
