Mary Josephine Deweese Mory, beloved daughter, sister, mother, wife, and friend passed away on October 12th, 2023, after a courageous and extended battle with cancer.
Mary’s journey through life began in Florence, Alabama. The daughter of Robert Deweese and Josephine Cavanagh, she also lived in Ohio, West Virginia, and New York. She returned to Alabama and attended Birmingham Southern University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Dance. It was during this time that she met the father of her children, Warren Mory. They were married on June 21, 1975. In 1977 they made a life changing move to Houston, Texas, a city she always considered home. While living in Houston she earned her Master of Arts Degree in Dance Theory from Sam Houston State University.
Mary taught dance and fitness classes at the community college level before deciding to pursue a career in Architecture. At the age of 40 she received her Master of Architecture at the University of Houston. Mary’s passion for her crafts shone brightly her entire life, leaving lasting impressions on those she encountered. In 2006 Mary moved to Jacksonville, Florida. She met Ramon Day, and they married on December 29, 2007.
She was always quick with a good joke and brought much joy and warmth wherever she went. Her generosity and kindness were felt by those fortunate enough to be a part of her world.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren Mory, and her stepson, Tyler Day. She is survived by her husband, Ramon Day, her two children, Robert Mory and his wife, Christen, Elizabeth Yusef, and her husband, Bessam, her sister Anne Carstens and her husband, Brian, her sister, Margaret Deweese, stepson, James Day, and a multitude of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
