Matthew "Matt" Brice Ogden III (also known as "Twink"), age 68, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on November 1, 2015 in Hammond, Louisiana. He was a native of Jacksonville, Florida and resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. He was born on October 15, 1947 in Jacksonville, to Matthew Brice Ogden, Jr. and Elizabeth Widner Ogden. Matt worked in the construction industry his entire career. He was an incredibly dedicated worker and always worked hard to provide for his family. As a young adult, Matt relocated to the South Louisiana area where he married Jayne. He lovingly raised four step-children whom he called his own. Matt was a big part of his family. They had such fun together and for 15 years they designed and built Mardi Gras floats, which they entered and rode in the New Orleans parades. He was an avid Saints and LSU fan, of course. Matt was a very loving, caring, and strong man. He was such a jokester and could always be found making people laugh. His Louisiana family and friends will truly miss him.
Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Jayne Ogden; parents, Matthew B Ogden, Jr. and Elizabeth W Ogden; and brother, Eddie Ogden. He is survived by his daughters, Emma Feddeck and husband Bart, Edna Little and husband Gary, Sharon Foret, and a son, Milton Davis and wife Susan. In addition, Matt is survived by 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and his beloved cat, Spot. Matt had a large Florida family and survivors include sisters, Ginger Ogden Murphy and husband Ed, Beth Ogden Reddick and husband Charlie (Jacksonville), Cheryl Turner (Savannah, GA), Lauren Vasseur (La Sauve Majeure, France); brother, Doug Berreth (Green Cove Springs, FL); and very loving step-mother, Gwen Ogden (Jacksonville). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, too numerous to name.
Even though our Twink moved so far away, he always made trips to Jacksonville to see his mama, his dad, and family. He loved them both so much and wished his visits could be longer. Ginger and Beth will miss the weekly phone calls where they would discuss the talk radio shows, politics, and how Matt’s weather there would predict theirs here. We had such fun talking about how we could solve world problems if someone would take our advice. We know he is in Heaven now with mom and dad and Jayne and Eddie, and they are having their own talk show. As a five-year-old big sister to a sweet little baby boy, Ginger called him Twinkie eyes, so he was called Twink by his family for most of his life. He was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Assumption School and Landon. He was in an accident in his mid-teens which injured his leg severely, so when he joined the Navy and was in boot camp, his leg gave him so many problems that he had to be medically discharged. He always wished he could have stayed in the Navy, but God had other plans. Many times in the last few years he and his sis, Ginger, discussed his faith. He had absolute faith and he prayed every day, so we can be assured he is with God. Matt (Twink) was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and cousin. We will miss him forever. Rest in Peace our Twink.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Hardage-Giddens, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
