Maurice “Maury” Schuman was called home to join his beloved wife Joan on October 6, 2014.
He was born in Clara City, MN on 12/13/29. A devoted husband, father and “Papa”, he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Maury served 20 years is the USAF as an air traffic controller and after retiring from his active duty service he was a successful real estate broker and investor in Jacksonville, FL. During his years of service to his country he witnessed the testing of a hydrogen bomb, was the Ramey AFB Tower Chief in Puerto Rico during the Cuban Missile Crisis and guarded the Bering Strait in Alaska.
He kept his green thumb wherever he happened to be. He said he could plant a post and make it grow. Maury took pride in sharing his produce and citrus every year.
He was predeceased by his parents Theresa and Joseph Schuman, his brother Alphonse and his wife Joan. He is survived by his brothers George (Rosalie), Manny (Joanne) and sisters Luzetta Mitchell (Don), Margie Schroeder (Sam), Earnestine Eagan (Al), and Eleanor Cedergren; children Mike (Barbara), Bill (Jackie), Tom, Terri Still (Robin), Karen Pustay (Butch) and Kelly Franzino and 10 grandchildren.
Maury’s motto was “you have to work hard to play hard” and that’s how he always lived his life. He had a great sense of humor and laughter was the only pain killer he would take. He constantly made connections with people, always forming relationships as he never met a stranger. His humor was contagious and he left a trail of laughter.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday evening, 10/9/14 at 6:30 – 8:30 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville FL 32207.
