Mayalene Salzer Kaysen, 91, Jacksonville native and lifelong resident, passed away March 20, 2013, surrounded by her daughters. Her passing was, fittingly, the first day of spring. Mayalene loved nature in all its wonder and was fiercely independent; a trait she passed on to all of her children. The youngest child of the late George V. and May (Roberts) Salzer, she was a devoted mother and daughter who spent her life in support of her family as a professional realtor. In later years, she was distinguished as an honored “Senior Salzer” at the biennial family reunions, known as Salzer Celebrations.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Kaysen, Jr. and five brothers, Karl, George Jr., William, John and Rock.. She is survived by her three daughters, Susan Kaysen Chappell (Tom), Julie Kaysen Ryan (Joseph Dion Sr.) and Mayalene Kaysen Holland (Tharin), four grandchildren, Scott Chappell (Alyssa), Alan Chappell (Tracy), Jesse Ryan and Carly Ryan Roberts (Jeremy), five great grandchildren, Arielle Chappell, Sadie Chappell, Daniel Chappell, Izik Chappell and Kaysen Jeremy Roberts as well as many dear friends.
The family will greet friends at mid-day on Monday, March 25 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be in Old City Cemetery on Union Street in Jacksonville.
