Bohannon – Melvina “Woodie” Lane Bohannon, 91 passed away June 9, 2019 at Community Hospice.
Melvina “Woodie” was born on December 6th, 1927 in Tampa Florida to Leverett and Suretta Lane. She was raised in Clermont Florida and moved to Jacksonville to train and work as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital. While working there she met the love of her life , Clarence Edward Bohannon (deceased), while taking care of his ill sister. They were married for almost 49 years and blessed with six beautiful children .She was a resident of Mandarin Florida for over 65 years! Woodie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.
Woodie’s children, son: Corbett Lane Bohannon (deceased), (Lisa), Dr. Cynthia Louise Bohannon, Cassandra Joy Blair (deceased), Catherine Bohannon Terry (Michael) Celia Diane “Deedle” Todor (Scot) Cheryl Renee Moody (Maxey).
Woodie was blessed with six grandchildren: Justin Bohannon (Lindsey), Christopher Blair, Crystal Kush (Matt), Spencer Terry(Iva), Steven Todor and Maxey Moody V. She also has eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Woodie has six brothers and sisters, Palma , twin sisters Jean and Joan, Mike, John, and Paul , whom she cherished and adored.
Woodie was a wonderful mother who enjoyed raising her family on their beautiful farm in Mandarin near St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She helped her husband operate his successful construction businesses while taking care of her large family. She enjoyed her animals, large vegetable garden and growing flowers. During her spare time she loved her weekly bowling league and the wonderful friends she met there. She also loved traveling to the great Smoky Mountains, Europe and a Caribbean cruise she took with her husband and best friends. Reading novels, listening and dancing to big band music and spending time in Clermont, Florida with her brothers and sisters were also many things that filled her heart with joy.
Woodie will be greatly missed by her loving family, many friends, and business acquaintances she knew over her lifetime.
We all love you Melvina (Woodie) Bohannon and will dearly miss you. We have been blessed to have you in our lives for 91 years. May God bless and keep you wrapped in his loving arms for all of eternity.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13th in St. Joseph's Historic Church, 4152 Loretto Rd. Jacksonville, with Father John Sollee as Celebrant, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
