Michael Leo Corrigan

Mike was born on February 19, 1936, in New York City, NY to Eugene Patrick and Alice Corrigan where his family owned and operated the Corrigan Riding Academy on the site of what today is the ABC studio. The family moved to Charleston, SC in 1947 where, in 1949, they started the horse drawn carriage business, a business that remains a Charleston tradition today.

In 1950, his family moved to Jacksonville, FL where Mike attended St Paul’s Catholic School before graduating in Bishop Kenny High School’s second graduating class. A gifted athlete, he played on Kenny’s first football team while also lettering in several other sports.

Upon graduating from high school, Mike enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served until being Honorably Discharged. Following his Marine Corp service, he attended The Citadel in Charleston, SC where he played football, serving as a lineman on both offense and defense.

It was while in living in Charleston that Mike met the love of his life, Caroline Shaw Corrigan, on an impromptu travel magazine photoshoot at the gates of St Phillips Church. The two married on a Sunday, October 27, 1957 - the day after a Citadel football game. He returned to football practice the next day and they kicked off a beautiful marriage of almost 61 years before she passed away in 2018. After the arrival of their second child, the two moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1960 where they built a life centered on family, faith, business and community service.

Mike joined his father’s business in Jacksonville, later purchasing Corrigan & Company before acquiring Trend Manufacturing and combining the businesses into Corrigan & Company, NuTrend Plastics. Working alongside his son Michael, daughter Kelly, and grandson Ian, he built a thriving family business. Sharing that work with three generations of his family was one of the greatest joys of his life and one of his proudest achievements.

A devoted parishioner of St Paul’s Catholic Church (Riverside) for 65 years, Mike gave generously of his time, talents, and treasures to both the parish church and school. Mike and Caroline believed deeply in the value of Catholic education, sending all five of their children through both St Paul’s and Bishop Kenny. They were longtime contributors to St Paul’s Church & School, Bishop Kenny, and Bishop Snyder High School. Together with their company, they established the Mike and Caroline Nu-Trend Scholarship Endowment that annually provides a scholarship to a rising Freshman at Bishop Snyder from both St Paul’s and St Matthew’s Catholic School. Mike has also provided for numerous other endowments at both St Paul’s and Bishop Snyder.

Mike was a dedicated Rotarian, joining the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville in 1971 and serving as Club President for the 1983-84 Rotary Year. He especially cherished projects that brought lasting benefits to others, including providing a self-contained diesel generator to a hospital in Haiti and helping build a baseball field for children with disabilities in Jacksonville. Together Mike and Caroline were supporters of The Rotary Foundation where they are recognized as Double Major Donors and endowed a Donor Advised Fund, reflecting their lifelong commitment to “Service Above Self”. In addition, each of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with many of their in-laws and friends, is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Mike is survived by his siblings Eugene P Corrigan, Jr, Lizanne Bomhard (Jim), and sister-in-law Patricia Corrigan; his five children Shawn Corrigan Asmuth (John), Kelly C. Wood (Raymond), Michael Leo Corrigan, Jr. (Edna), Carol Corrigan Yazdiya (David), and Casey Corrigan Rogers (Dwayne); his thirteen grandchildren Ian Wood (Haley), Chelsea Corrigan Kennedy (Tyler), David Yazdiya (Mary Kate), Ashley Asmuth Mitchell (Conner), Trevor Wood (Hannah) , Emily Corrigan Higginbotham (Kyle), Talbot Yazdiya (Ashley), Capt. Shelby Wood, Connor Corrigan, Caroline Yazdiya, Casey Wood, Riley Rogers, and Gabriella (Gabby) Rogers; his nine great-grandchildren Dawson, Dean, Corrigan (Corri), Coen, Bennett, Evelyn, Brody, Maxwell (Max), and Sadie; many nieces, nephews and their spouses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Alice Corrigan, his brother John, and sisters-in-law Mabel Corrigan and Pat Corrigan.
