A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Mike graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville University and a master’s degree from Central Michigan University.
After more than a 38 year career at JEA, Mike retired in 2014. An avid musician, Mike played bass, guitar and drums with several local bands and was well known and respected in the Jacksonville music community. He also enjoyed watching college sports, especially the Jacksonville University Dolphins and the Florida Gators.
Mike is survived by his wife, Melanie Carriere, his son Michael E. Lanier, several cousins and many, many friends from all walks of life. He is also survived by his 4 legged children Lulu, Piper and Max. He is predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Dianna Michelle Lanier Brandenburg.
Never shy about voicing his opinion or offering sage advice, Mike will be remembered for his straight forward character and his fierce love of and loyalty to his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin.
