Miriam "Mimi" Sterman
March 2, 1928 – September 9, 2018
Miriam “Mimi” Hirschhorn Sterman, 90, passed away on September 9 in Jacksonville, surrounded by her family who adored her. Mimi’s journey to Jacksonville took her from her roots in New York to her young adulthood in Alabama, where she had the good fortune to meet her beloved husband, Buddy, at the University of Alabama. Buddy and Mimi had many happy years in Jacksonville, enjoying their friends, their work and being near their son, Phil. Those who knew Mimi will remember her for the deep love and devotion she lavished upon her family, and for the energy and skill she gave to her work with realtors Carole Davis and Jimmy Linn and her many projects. In her later years, she particularly enjoyed her volunteer activities and time with her family. During her last years when she tackled a number of health issues with determination and good humor, she was blessed to have the most wonderful care and support. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Mimi was predeceased by her husband Milton “Buddy” Sterman, with whom she shared 54 wonderful years. Her survivors include her children Mindy (John) Thornton of Miami, Phil (Karen) Sterman of Jacksonville, grandsons David (Kim) Thornton and Ryan (Hanna) Thornton, and great-grandchildren Bailey and Matthew Thornton. A Celebration of Mimi’s Life will be on Thursday September 13, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel with a reception following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mimi’s memory to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
The Sterman family extends its heartfelt thanks to the many members of the medical profession who cared for Mimi with such skill and compassion, including Dr. Charles Booras, who, with his father, cared for Buddy and Mimi from the time they first moved to Jacksonville. Special love and gratitude go to Curlene Darden, and her army of wonderful caregivers from CJ’s Healing Hands Home Healthcare, who looked after Mimi with love and skill, and whose presence added so much to Mimi’s life.

We are so sorry about Mimi. she and Buddy were very special. I remember them most when they lived in Gadsden and we would visit and go to the Drug Store. Two wonderful people who will truly be remembered.
With Love to you Mindy and Phil and all of your family.

We are thinking of you and wish we could be with you in this difficult time. The love we have for Mimi and all her family is so strong. We have so many sweet memories of our times together as children at play and as adults knowing all we have shared through the years. There is no way to list all the good times and the sad times but we are closer and stronger for it all. It is so special to have these memories to look back on. Mimi never forgot about her family and we will always remember how she made us feel loved and special. She will definitely be missed but we are glad she is in a special place with Buddy and all our loved ones. Know we love you and hope to see you soon. Prayers are with you during this difficult time. All our love, the Couch(Sterman) family.
