Morris “Murray” Okun, 86, passed away October 25, 2010, in Boca Raton, FL. He was born on Brooklyn, NY on September 14, 1924, to Becky and Isidore Okun. He and his new bride moved to Jacksonville shortly after marrying in 1948 to begin their new life and family.
Murray grew up in Brooklyn and learned the carpentry trade from his father. He was a naval veteran of WWII, serving shipboard and in New Caledonia in the Pacific. Yet another of our Greatest Generation has honorably finished his tour. After being discharged, Murray met and married the love of his life, Constance “ Connie” Mesnick. They packed their belongings in their car and headed south, settling in Jacksonville after Murray saw that you could drive your car on the beach in Jacksonville. He worked many jobs, often two or three at a time to provide for his family. His family was his life.
He is predeceased by his wife, Connie. He leaves to cherish the good times his daughter, Ronnie Redmond (Don), sons, Alan Okun, Terry Okun (Jackie), and Randy Okun (Debbi), brother Jack (Cecil), sister-in-law Eleanor “Eli” Wildstein, grandchildren Cara, Danny, Connie, Jordan and many nieces and nephews. The kids would like to express their gratitude to the many angels at Manor Care in Boca Raton for their loving care of Murray.
