

Myra Anne Godsey Hays, 77, of Jacksonville, passed away May 18, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Chattanooga, Tn. and moved to Jacksonville in 1962 with her family. Myra was graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring Md.. She attended Brenau College, Gainesville, Ga. and The University of Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tn. where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Myra was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Bill Hays. She is survived by three children, Chip Hays, Betsy (Jeffrey) Jacobs, Scott Hays and 3 grandchildren, Haley, Hays and Hannah Jacobs, all from Jacksonville; a brother, Butch (Virginia) Godsey of Jacksonville and a sister Lynn (Bill) Grant of Fernandina Beach, FL; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Myra was a 52- year member of Beta Sigma Phi International, a member of the Jacksonville Hibiscus Garden Club and long time member of Southside United Methodist Church. She was a proficient seamstress, excellent cook and loved to entertain.
The family will receive visitors at Hardage-Giddens funeral home, Hendricks Avenue on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. A memorial service will be held at Southside United Methodist Church, Saturday May, 21 at 11:00 AM In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to L'Arche Harbor House, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, or Southside United Methodist Church.
