

Nancy Harris Altman, a loving example of God’s Grace in action, was called home February 11, 2018 at the age of 77. She was active to the end in spite of a long illness. Many remember her as a Facilitator with LifeStream, Inc., and as President of LifeWorks, Inc., non-profit, a personal responsibility learning system. Her life purpose was to love God and to share that love with everyone.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Dr. Jim Altman, and her beloved dog, Sunday, and is survived by her son Kirkland Scott Altman (Jennifer), daughter Sally Rebekah Frisbie (Art), all of Jacksonville, and her son Col. John Morrison Altman (Miriam) of Lorton, VA. The consummate joys of her life were her grandchildren: Benjamin Altman, Katelyn Altman, Emily Frisbie, Meghan Frisbie, Kathy Reynoso, Monica Altman, and John Altman.
Nancy graduated from Pensacola High School in 1958. Nancy continued her lifelong passion the “love of learning”. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a minor in Psychology from the University of Florida, a Master of Arts in Business Administration with a Specialty in Social Service from Georgia Southwestern State University, a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Certification in Gifted Education from Jacksonville University, and a Certification in Education for Ministry (EFM) from University of the South. Nancy has been an educator since 1974. She was the co-founder, curriculum coordinator, and teacher at Mandarin Farm School and Learning Center. She served as the Director of the Learning Center at Georgia Southwestern State University. She was the Director of Title III Higher Education Revitalization Program at Florence-Darlington College School of Nursing. She also served as Counselor and Instructor for Jacksonville University’s Upward Bound program. Nancy was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, having served many positions such as, but not limited to, member and Past President of Daughters of the King, St. John's Chapter, and Grief Counselor/Facilitator for Walking the Mourner's Path. Nancy was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society, a professional organization for educators, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an honor society for outstanding women educators. She was a member of American Mensa. Nancy was Strong, Responsive, Disciplined, and Joyful. Her lasting gift was her ability to inspire people to become their best and to see the beauty in themselves and others.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 3, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the Bishop’s Garden with a reception to immediately follow in Taliaferro Hall, St. John's Cathedral, downtown, at 256 East Church Street, Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to St. John’s Cathedral’s Scout Troop 906. Donations to be used for campers-ships and scholarships for the boys and girls of "Troop 906". (Please make checks payable to: St. John’s Cathedral, Please include "Troop 906" in memo portion)
