

Nancy Marie Dertilis, age 68, passed away to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 with her family by her side. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 9, 1947, grew up in Locust Valley, New York, and was a graduate of Locust Valley High School, class of 1965. In 1972 she married her husband and continued their life in Locust Valley. In 1975 she had her son and began her role as a mother. Her love for her son kept her involved in many aspects of his life, from Den Mother for the Cub Scouts to soccer mom. Nancy was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and her love for her faith was easily seen through the time and dedication she gave to the church through her musical talents. Nancy was a beautiful singer and organist, and her love of music kept her active in her church, serving for 25 years as choir director and canter for The Greek Orthodox Church of the Resurrection in Glen Cove, New York. In 2005, she and her husband moved to Jacksonville, Florida to retire and be closer to her son & granddaughters.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Minas Dertilis; son, James and daughter-in-law, Maryanne; and her granddaughters, Irene and Demetra.
There will be a Trisagion Service on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 5:00 pm and the Funeral Service on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10:00 am. Both services will be held at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 3850 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32207, with the Reverend Dr. Nicholas Louh, officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hills Cemetery, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N, Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Nancy Dertilis' name be made to St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church Building Campaign, 3850 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
