Nancy Clarke Mason, 89, of Jacksonville, died suddenly after a brief illness on Monday, August 9, 2021. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 22, 1932. In 1937 she moved with her family to Port Arthur, Texas where she lived until 1952. After attending college, she married and lived in may places from Okinawa to Wyoming, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York as an Air Force officer’s wife. In 1971, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she lived until her death. In each place she made many lasting friendships while raising three children. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of North Florida in 1973 and went on to get a degree in Nursing in 1983.
Nancy was a dedicated registered nurse for 19 years before retiring from the Mayo Clinic at St. Luke’s Hospital. She continued her passion for caring others by giving her time to Volunteers In Medicine Clinic of Jacksonville and the Emergency Department of the Mayo Clinic Hospital until she was 86 years old.
Nancy loved and supported her children and adored being Meemaw/Baba, and Mimi/Bab to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She gave her love unconditionally to each of us and asked nothing in return. Her love will continue to bind our hearts and spirits forever.
Nancy is preceded in death by her dear parents, Richard Preston Clarke and Gladys Irene Clarke. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Ellen Mason, and Ann Elizabeth Mason; her son, Stephen Clarke Mason (Mary Glenn); her grandchildren, Stephen Glenn Mason, Timothy Joseph Mason, Aleksandra Irene Mason, Katerina Elizabeth Ponder (Zachary), Anastasia Mason Veal (Anthony); and five great-grandchildren, Emmitt Veal, Mason Veal, Lincoln Veal, Lily Breller, and Luke Breller; and her precious Baby, who, according to the sign in Mom’s kitchen, “gets everything”.
A service will be held at St. John’s Cathedral, 256 East Church Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32202 on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00AM. Interment of ashes will be in the Bishop’s Garden following the service. A reception will follow in Ingram Lounge.
