

Nathan “Sonny” Copeland Sandler, 87, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia surrounded by his family. He was born December 27, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama and moved to Jacksonville, Florida as a young child. Nathan was married to Marilyn Fleet Sandler of Live Oak, Florida for 64 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Herbert Sandler. Nathan was a member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center and was involved in many aspects of synagogue and community life. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Nathan spent the first half of his professional life as a poultry producer and then developed a successful sales career in the paper industry. After retiring, he spent many years being a bailiff in the Duval County System and was known for going above and beyond the call of duty. He loved his family and nothing made him prouder than spending time with his many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a keen love for gardening, Florida Gator Football and Basketball and decorating his home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Fleet Sandler; and four daughters, Renee (Rick) Janovitz, Arlene (Leslie) Gibbs, Suzy (Rick) Goldman and Holly (Mark) Emas. Nathan also had eight grandchildren, Erin (Eric) Goldmann, Brian Janovitz, Scott (Sara) Janovitz, Ally (Jonathan) Habif, Sam Goldman, Hillary Goldman, Jacqueline Emas and Amelia Emas; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Will and Teddy Goldmann; and one sister, Joyce Sandler Strassburger of Montgomery, Alabama. He will forever be grateful to his two loving caregivers, Tonya Rogers and Lisa Yarnell.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 21st at New Center Cemetery, 43rd and Liberty Streets, Jacksonville, Florida with Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner officiating.
Hardage-Giddens, The Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, is serving the family.
