Nell dedicated over 50 years of service as a volunteer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was an active and cherished member of the VFW Post 7909, where she found great joy in assisting with Bingo events and was affectionately known as “Glenn’s Queen” for her dedication to selling Bingo cards. She also crocheted scrubbies to support the Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Mathis; daughter, Sandra M. Pierce; and son, Willard Doyle Mathis. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara M. Bobbitt; sister, Faye Strayer; grandchildren, Justin Pierce, Neil Pierce (Leah), and Michelle Debrinksi (Tim); six great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on March 9th, 2025, at 3:00pm at VFW Post 7909, located at 6204 Blanding Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32244.
Nell’s dedication to her community and the friendships she built through her volunteer work will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
