Nimeh Abed Kassis, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2020. She was born on May 23, 1927 in Ramallah, Palestine and migrated to Jacksonville, Florida in 1969, where she resided with her brother Issa and sister in-law Effa Kassis.
Nimeh “Auntie” as she was known to everyone was a true angel. She devoted her life to taking care of others as her family was the center of her world. There was not a person who met her who did not fall in love with her. She touched many lives with her warm, generous nature and unconditional love. She enjoyed sharing memories of growing up in Ramallah and sharing stories of her childhood. She was a faithful member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. She was God fearing and devoted her life to the Lord; always smiling and praying for those around her. She will always be remembered for her favorite send-off “God Be With You”. Aunt Nimeh blessed us all with her kind and gentle demeanor who lived a life of serving others.
Nimeh is predeceased in death by her parents; Abed and Azizeh Kassis sisters; Mudelelah Eways, Sara Shatara, Mariam “Offa” Koury and Badia Hadawar. She is survived by her sister, Mary Ibrahim and brother, Issa (Effa) Kassis; nieces Tina Kassis, Jackie Kassis, Jena (Greg) Higginbotham, Shadya (Norman) Mufarreh; great-niece and great-nephews; Mia, Sammy and Julian Mufarreh and Hunter Higginbotham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Due to the current circumstances of Covid-19, and out of caution and concern for everyone’s safety, as well as, the CDC guidelines, the funeral and graveside services for the late Nimeh Abed Kassis will be limited to the immediate family. Once circumstances improve and safety measures are lifted, those who would like to offer condolences to the family may do so at that time.
Funeral and graveside services will be led by the Very Reverend Father Kamal Al-Rahil. All services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32207. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11a.m. and service at 11a.m.
