

Mrs. Nina J. Kelley, nee Maruzzi, formerly of Lakeland, died of heart failure on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 94. She was born to Jennie and Anthony Marruzzi on July 26, 1921 in East Lynn, Massachusetts, and moved to Lakeland, Florida in 1965. She graduated from Boston University in 1943 with a BA in Chemistry. She married James C. Kelley on June 17, 1945 in East Lynn, Massachusetts. She taught science for many years, including at St. Joseph School in Lakeland, Florida and was fondly remembered by her students. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, served on the diocesan curriculum committee, and participated in the Ridge Stamp Club.
Mrs. Kelley was pre-deceased by Jim, her husband and sweetheart of over 60 years; two infants, Peter and Donald; her daughter, Nina Marie Borcher; and five siblings. She is survived by her children (spouses): James A. of Silver Spring, Maryland; Thomas (Karen Tonso), Arvada, Colorado; Michael, Lebanon, Oregon; Kathleen Barthelemey, Lakeland, Florida; Margaret Donaldson (Bob), Deland, Florida; and William, Lakeland, Florida; and by her niece, Lorraine Pressley, Lakeland, Florida; her sister, Patricia Orphanos (Peter), Phoenix, Arizona; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakeland, Florida on Monday June 20th at 10:00 am. A rosary at 9:30 am will precede the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Academy (Lakeland, FL) Science Program in Nina’s memory or to a charity of choice.
