Nina was born in Pennsylvania on January 13, 1927, to Steve and Ethel Geuther. She grew up on a dairy farm with 7 brothers and sisters, all of whom predeceased her. She went to Robert Packer School of Nursing in Sayre, PA and was an ARNP and certified as a Nurse Anesthetist. She began her nursing career in Miami, FL where she met her husband, Walter Kozak, and they were married in 1956. They relocated to Ormond Beach, FL where they raised their two children. She spent most of her career at Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach, FL.
After her retirement, she enjoyed walking on the beach, quilting, gardening, reading and bird watching. She also enjoyed traveling and visited many countries around the world. She volunteered at Pinkadilly Thrift Shop, Meals on Wheels and other community organizations in Ormond Beach and the surrounding area. In addition, she found time to be a very active grandma, often baking chocolate chip cookies with her granddaughters. Education was also incredibly important to Nina.
She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Walter William Kozak, Sr. (2008) and her son, Walter William Kozak, Jr. (1987). She is survived by her daughter, Christina Kozak Whorton (Jim) of Saint Augustine, FL and 2 granddaughters, Amanda Marie Whorton of Ithaca, NY and Christa Nicole Whorton of Jacksonville, FL.
