Mrs. Lumpkins was born in Knoxville, TN and spent her early years in Lawrenceburg, TN until moving permanently to Jacksonville, FL in 1955. She was very active in community service endeavors such as the Baptist Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary, and took great joy in various charitable efforts and generally helping others. She loved gardening, reading, chocolate and was an award-winning tennis ladies’ doubles player. She cared deeply for her family and so many friends, holding a particular love for Jesus, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband of 52 years, James B Lumpkins, and her daughter, Lynne O’Neal Petersen, Mrs. Lumpkins is survived by her son James B Lumpkins, Jr (Luanne); four grandchildren James B Lumpkins III (Laura), Stephen T Lumpkins (Erin), Lindsay Tietje (Greg), and Caroline Miller; 7 great grandchildren Graham W. Lumpkins, Mary Frances Lumpkins, James B Lumpkins IV, Brooklynne Tietje, Mattox Tietje, Joseph A Miller, and Colton Miller; and 3 nieces Deborah Lumpkins, Susan McWaters, and Patrice Ayer.
Graveside service will be officiated by Senior Pastor Tim Grosshans, The First Baptist Church of Winter Garden, FL and will be held Monday, October 22nd, at 11:00 AM at OAKLAWN CEMETERY, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Norma Jane Lumpkins to The First Baptist Church, 125 East Plant Street, Winter Garden, FL 34787.
