Norman "Danny" H. Daniel Jr.

He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on November 23, 1952 to Norman and Ruth Benson Millier Daniel. The family moved to Jacksonville, Florida when he was five years of age.

He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1971 where he played trumpet in their marching band. He then joined the US Navy Reserves in late 1971 where he served as a boiler technician/fireman apprentice on the USS Waldron, stationed at Naval Station Mayport.

Danny worked for Swisher International for 42 years, retiring as a journeyman maintenance mechanic. He proudly served as Vice President of the International Association of Machinists (IAM) local 1033, for 25 years.

From a musical family, Danny carried forward his love of music, his playing in his father's swing band for almost a decade, performing at VFWs, festivals, and various other venues.

He was confirmed at Snyder Memorial Methodist Church where he was a parishioner before joining Avondale United Methodist Church in 2002.

Danny reveled in accurate history and was an avid collector of toy soldiers and military memorabilia. He painted thousands of toy soldiers that he used in historical wargaming, a hobby he enjoyed with many friends for decades. A patriot and a southern gentleman, Danny was a man of high integrity who placed great value on honor.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother Norman and Ellen Daniel, mother Ruth Benson Miller Wagner, sisters Joanne O'Toole Crawford, Betty Miller, Shirley Miller and brothers Tommy Miller, David Miller, and Bobby Fowler.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Roxanne Bennett Daniel, sisters in-law Brenda and Sharon and brothers-in-law Eldred, Ronnie, Jody, Eric, Timothy and Douglas; sister Brenda Lindes, brothers Paul Daniel and Ben Brown (Elaine), and numerous nieces and nephews, including nephew Jim Daniel. Jim's children, Justin, Christian, and Ethan enjoyed wargaming with their great uncle.

A funeral service will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, August 29th 2026, at 10 AM with the Reverend Dr. Laurence Coles officiating. A reception and interment will follow at Arlington Park Cemetery, 6920 Lone Star Rd., Jacksonville, Florida.
