

She was a generous and caring person. She was a nurse's assistant for over 20 years working alongside Dr. F. J. Auwers. She was a dedicated wife and mother. No daughter could have had a better mother. No husband could have had a better wife. No one could have had a better friend than Ola Mae Thompson.
She was a great cook. She could cook anything. She was full of life and loved by so many. Throughout her life, her focus was on raising her daughter, caring for her husband and serving her Lord. Among her many accolades, she received awards for volunteer work in the public schools. She volunteered at schools every day for several years helping and loving the children. All of the children called her “Grandma.”
Mae was a devoted Christian, who loved to share God's word and her love for Jesus. She believed strongly in education. She made sure her daughter received degrees with no student loans to repay.
She was a great woman who lived a great life, inspiring many. She will be missed, as she was loved and respected by, her family, friends and community.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents George and Stella Askew Long and her sister Willeen. She leaves to mourn her loving daughter Gloria Ann Thompson Stephens, son-in-law Robert E. Stephens, grandson Andrew Martin Stephens, husband O.C. Thompson, niece Charlene Weeks and husband Willie Weeks and daughter and 2 grandsons (Lithia Springs, Ga.),godson Michael Nierenberg owner of Tropical Decorators and Upholsterers. Additionally, she is mourned by cousins Veronica Askew and husband Edward Henley who is Mae's godson also (Fort Valley, Ga), Calvinfloyd Prince Askew and three children (Warner Robins, Ga.), Sheena Askew and 4 children (Fort Valley, Ga.), godson Christopher Stewart and numerous loving family members and dear friends including Beverly Jackson, Richard Cobb, Jimmy Woodward, Bebe/ Coleman Yarbrough and Lena Dunbar.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 729 S Edgewood Ave Jax. Fl 32205, where a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday October 11, 2014 at 3 PM, followed immediately by fellowship and reception provided by the family.
