Patricia Downs York

Patricia Downs York, 80, passed away peacefully on October 2nd at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born August 13, 1934, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Harold Ruchty and Isabelle Darby Downs. Patty grew up in Odessa, Texas, and graduated from Odessa High School in 1952. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she studied archaeology and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Patty married Thomas Oliver York in 1954. They were happily married for 38 years. Patty enjoyed painting and traveled extensively. Having visited over 100 countries, they were members of the Travelers’ Century Club.

Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Tom York. Patty is survived by her sister, Deanna Schroeder, and her children: Stanford (Cindy) York of Belleville, Illinois; Stacy (Brad) Berg of Jacksonville, Florida; and Ty (Missy) York of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Grandchildren include Baker Berg, Darby (Keith) Bower, and Charlie Berg; and Macon, Oliver, Cole, and Billy York.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Episcopal High School, 4455 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207 or the University of the South, 735 University Avenue, Sewanee, TN 37385.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, Tuesday, October 7th at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
