Peggy Jeane Beerbower, 82, died peacefully the morning of January 13, 2022, at her daughter’s home. She was surrounded by her devoted family and compassionate caregivers in the days prior to her final transition into God’s kingdom.
Peggy was born August 7, 1939, in Jacksonville, Florida and she lived here most of her life. She was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, and she attended Kennesaw State University, studying finance. Over the years, she worked primarily inside the home, supporting her husband, caring for her family, and nurturing her grandchildren. She was married to her husband Dale for over 54 years; in her support of her husband’s career path, she moved to such locations as Tallahassee, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. After leaving Atlanta and moving to McLean, Virginia, she sought employment outside of the home; she worked for eight years as the American Assistant Finance Director for the Society of Photogrammetry. In rearing two children and caring for her family, she often served as the team mom or the room mother for the class, baking cookies, gathering supplies, or providing transportation. In her grandchildren’s formative years, she often volunteered to spend time with them after school such as swimming in the pool, reading books, or playing games like Rummy. She will also be known for eating her weight in Jelly Belly beans, caring for animals in the neighborhood, and blowing bubbles into the wind. So often, she attended athletic events, dance performances, and music/vocal concerts – all in support of her grandchildren. Her granddaughters lovingly refer to her as Sweet Nan or Nana Girl.
Her greatest joys included faith, family, and friends. Over the years, she completed a 7-year program Bible Study Fellowship on the book of Genesis, and she participated in a women’s Bible study in her neighborhood for 18 years. For the past 12 years, she attended Fruit Cove Baptist Church; if unable to attend church, she listened to the sermons of Dr. Charles Stanley, one of her favorites, a biblical scholar. She also took great comfort in knowing that her grandchildren knew the Lord as Savior. She dearly loved and valued her family. Among her friends, she was known as a prayer warrior, for they could count on her to pray for them. When she committed to volunteer at Community Hospice, she worked at the front desk for about 12 years, greeting visitors with a loving spirit.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Dale T. Beerbower, her parents Leonard D. McMichael and Opie S. McMichael, and a sister Joye M. Glenna, and is survived by her brother, Lamar S. McMichael of Jacksonville, Florida, and by her children Kenneth M. Beerbower of Austin, Texas, and Pamela L. Clubb (John) of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also survived by her granddaughters Kinna Y. Beerbower, Bethany V. Clubb, and Madison E. Clubb. During her battle with cancer, Mayo Clinic, Visiting Angels, and Community Hospice provided compassionate care; therefore, we want to thank Dr. Olga Petrucelli with Mayo Clinic, Kristine with Visiting Angels, and Mireya, Diane, Veronica, and Latisha with Community Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care.
