Pete Lesley was the only child born to George V. Lesley and Patricia A. Lesley in Terre Haute, Indiana. They lived in Chicago, Detroit, and for most of Pete’s formative years, in Toledo, Ohio. Their family’s final move was to Tampa, Florida. Following in his father’s career footsteps, Pete lived and loved his life in “big rig truck” Fleet Maintenance. He was hired by Ryder Truck Lines, on October 1, 1983, where he met and later married his wife of 43 years, Sandy.
He became an amazing stepdad to Daron, Kelly and Angela. Grandfather (Papa Pete) to Jennifer, Alice, Miguel, Nathan and Petra. When Angela passed away, he stepped up wholeheartedly to the plate to help raise Alice, Nathan and Petra. He was so proud of all of them. Time passed and he again proudly wore his favorite name/title… “Papa Pete” to 8 great grandchildren. Anthony, Taylor, and Troy Jr.; Sophia, Sebastian, Shiloh; Ezra and Boaz. Pete was Father-in-law and great friends with Eugene Carr and Grand-Father-in-law to Troy Miller and Ben Norton.
As an only child, Pete was so happy to have three wonderful sisters-in-law. Nina (Bill), Ann (Jimmy) and Sherry (David) and their amazing husbands. He also had a “chosen brother” his best friend, David Couch (Lisa).
Pete had many passions:
He loved God and Country and honored the United States Flag.
His wife Sandy, his three stepdaughters and their spouses.
Five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
He was very proud of the home he and Sandy shared.
They hosted many events for family and friends over the years.
Avid boaters, Pete and Sandy became members of the Florida Tackle and Gun Club thirty-six years ago and spent many happy hours with their club family.
Peter Anthony Lesley Loved Life! He enjoyed ALL types of music, classic cars, trucks and trains. He also was a sports enthusiast, who loved sailing, power boating, shooting pool, and casual and competitive outdoor cooking. He truly loved every pet that ever came into their lives, and especially his faithful companion, “Bryson” an energetic yorkie.
Pete was talented, brilliant, funny, loved and truly admired. He would assist anyone, in any way, at any time. He will be so very missed by many family members and friends.
Peace be with you all.
Following a private service for immediate family members, plans for a future “Celebration of Life” in February, will be shared with friends, extended family and colleagues.
